The Brief

Newspan were tasked with delivering the building envelope, including; steel frame, roof and wall cladding, ridge ventilation, thermally broken double glazing and doors. The end result is a modern, high performing building that celebrates the attention to detail that Newspan is proud to be known for.

The new store, situated at J9 on the M5, is the first store to open on the new Cotswold Designer Outlet premium retail site and would be the largest Dobbies store in the South West. The Tewkesbury store features Dobbies’ range of plants, houseplants, gardening products, seasonal items, pet range, cook shop, home décor, gifts and toys, as well as a Walter Smith butcher and Waitrose products in the food hall. The store also features a ‘Little Seedlings’ soft play area for children and a 930m2 restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea.

The Solution

The Tewkesbury store is one of Dobbies’ biggest garden centres and has created around 100 jobs for local and neighbouring communities, with more than 750,000 customers expected each year. The new Dobbies store is the first phase of a major development which also includes the forthcoming Cotswolds Designer Outlet, expected to open in 2024, and 1,310 homes being built to the south. The whole development is sited in a prime location at J9 of the M5 and close to Ashchurch for Tewkesbury train station.
