The Brief

Tracing back to 1864, the Hillier name is synonymous with gardening and horticulture. To this day they continue to supply plants, gardening accessories and services of the highest quality.

Having previously built a large new build centre for Hillier at their Eastbourne location in 2010 and a restaurant extension at their Newbury site in 2015, Newspan were delighted to undertake another project for Hillier. In early 2018 Newspan were tasked with building a new structure which would house the new kitchen and restaurant on site at Botley, Southampton. The new building was planned to adjoin the various existing structures whilst maximising space on site.

The Solution

The new building was planned to abut three different structures with three different roof pitches, whilst maintaining a uniform look and feel on the new interior space. Newspan achieved this by fabricating steelwork which was adjustable on site to support a large insulated membrane gutter. The new gutter now acts as a bridge between the new buildings and old. The new restaurant is now a bright, modern space with bi-fold doors which fully open in the summer to provide more flexibility with the floor space.

Special Projects

Newspan’s structures can be adapted to suit many public access applications.
