Poplars Garden Centre grabs the headlines
Wednesday, 13 April 2011
Following the handover in March 2010 of a 16,372 sq ft extension built by Newspan on former concession space at Poplars Garden Centre, we were thrilled to see the store
extensively featured in a double page spread in April’s Garden Trade News as part of their ‘Family Businesses’ series.
We used a steel frame, built up roof cladding, insulated elevation composite sheeting, and double glazing with automatic doors to deliver an attractive retail area that was easy for Poplars to fit out seasonally for leisure and Christmas sales. Overcoming challenges presented by the connection to existing buildings and a variation in height within the extension itself, we also utilised automatic roof ventilators to facilitate natural ventilation, as well as energy efficient solutions to reduce heating and cooling costs.
The garden centre is now a £5.5 million retail operation, earning a place in this year’s Garden Centre Association’s top Centres of Excellence.
